The Evaluation of body dysmorphic disorder in adult orthodontic patients

Introduction: The present study aimed to evaluate body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in orthodontic patients. Also, the relation between demographic factors and BDD was investigated. Materials Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional performed on 320 patients referred dental clinic. Participants were excluded if they had craniofacial syndromes, visible physical inabilities, mental diseases such as depression OCD, required orthognathic surgery. YBOCS-BDD used assess BDD. Fisher’s exact test using SPSS Version 24 at significance level of P=0.05. Results: 47.5% normal 34.4% mild 17.2% moderate BDD, only 0.9% severe A significant found gender marital status (P=0.004 P<0.001, respectively). age severity not statistically significant. Conclusion: is more common women single people. In this regard, it recommended that cosmetic clinicians be careful accepting with a history personality problems, multiple frequent esthetic surgeries, necessary, persuade refer patient psychiatrist counselor prevent consequences.
